Overview
This project focused on evaluating reality capture performance within an active water treatment facility by scanning the same interior environment using four different scanning platforms. Each dataset was processed into an individual point cloud to compare variations in detail, density, coverage, and overall data quality. The project also examined the operational strengths, limitations, and ideal use cases for each scanner, culminating in a practical recommendation on the most effective solution for facility documentation and asset capture workflows.
Objectives
Collect scans of the interior of a water treatment facility
Scan the same exact space using 4 separate scanners
Produce a point cloud of each to show the differences in the detail and data level
Summarize key differences between each scanner and best use case for each
Give a recommendation on which scanner should be used for the job
